Overview
Periodontal
surgery can be used to correct defects in
the shape, position or appearance of the
gums around your teeth. Combined with
restorative dentistry an excellent aesthetic
result can be achieved.
Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery, also called
Periodontal Plastic Surgery, usually
involves borrowing tissue from the palatal
area then sutured into a new position where
correction in necessary. The procedures are
performed with local anesthetic only and
involve minimal discomfort.
The most common cosmetic procedure in
periodontics involves covering an exposed
root following gum recession. Other
techniques can correct a "gummy smile",
rebuild tissue lost following a tooth
extraction or establish proper shape, form
and symmetry to your smile.
